Week 12 Final Reflection

In my first year of university a few years back, I wanted to take this module to improve my communication. I knew that communication skills are important and that I am weak in this area. However, due to the high bidding points, I failed to get this module for many semesters. When I finally got this module, I intended for it to really improve my communication.
This module has really taught a lot of things about communications. It taught us on verbal and non-verbal aspects of communication, the 7Cs of written communication, writing minutes, resume and of course, a lot is learnt through the research project too.
Of all these, I find the part about writing business correspondence (like emails, letters, agenda, minutes, resume) to be most useful. In addition, the research project is a good platform for us to work with others as well as learn about how to give a good presentation.
However, I think that communication is a subject that requires more than one semester of effort put in. Constance practice and effort is needed to improve my communication skills. Nonetheless, this module is a good starting point for me. One pity is that because of the other modules as well as my CCA, I could not find more time for this module that will make my learning experience more rewarding. Despite this, I think I still have put in very much effort in the research project and have enjoyed working with Yu Yin and Mushtaq (also my blogging buddy). Thus, this three months plus of work has been a satisfying and pleasant one.

Hey Yuan Lin,
I have to give it to you for your perseverance to get the module after so many attempts.I have to agree that the module has really taught us a lot of skills about communication such as verbal and non-verbal aspects of communication, the 7Cs of written communication, writing minutes and resume. It was really an experience doing the research project together with you and Yu Yin.

I also feel that this communication module is a subject that requires more than one semester of effort. It could be taught in two semesters rather cramping everything into one semester and every part could be taught in details rather than in bits and pieces.

It was great knowing you and working with you throughout the semester.I wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

I agree with Mushtaq on your keen interest to take this module, which required a considerable amount of our bidding points. This course is indeed a rewarding one where I learnt many new things and also the correct way of conveying my messages across to people. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I am sure this module serves as a good starting point for each and everyone of us to begin polishing up my communication skills. Perhaps instead of extending the duration of the course to 2 semesters, perhaps the relevant department can increase the number of modular credits (MC) from the current 4 to 6MC? I look forward to your oral presentation tomorrow. All the best!

Hello! :D
I believe that you also feel that the 997 points placed for this module is worth it...

I feel that this module is a little too rush, and it would have been better if they divided this module into written and oral...

I agree that communication skills are very important, and many of the students from science (including me) are weak in this area.

All the best! It was great knowing you!

Dear Yuan Lin,

I feel that the 997 points spent on this module is definitely worth it. Kudos to you for persevering in the CORS bidding! =)

I agree that this communication module could have been broken down into 2 semesters. This would greatly enhance our learning and I am sure it would be beneficial for all. The 7Cs of communication were really useful in reminding me being courteous when I reply to electronic mails since I have a notorious reputation of being harsh.

All the best!
